Native Plant Garden

This is a site about our journey in changing our yard to native plants.

Site Preparation

It was weeks of work removing the invasive plants during the transition. Paloma’s Garden did heroic work getting rid of the English ivy, vinca and larger invasive and non-native plants.

We left some of the non-native plants, like large azaleas, as they were healthy well-established plants that do offer some benefits to wildlife like shelter and nesting areas for birds.

We had a great native plant planting plan from Brian O’Neil to help define what we would do, including bed size, plants, and where to have paths. It covered the whole yard. There were some places where we chose to keep existing non-native plants, with the hope we will go back later and replace those also.
